Experience Matters

Dr. Rebecca Osborne is a classroom teacher in Round Rock ISD.  After graduating from Round Rock High School, she received her B.F.A. from Southwestern University in Georgetown.  As a Republican candidate for the State Board of Education (SBOE), she blends her years of experience as a classroom teacher and as an administrator with specialized training in management from The University of Texas at Austin, where she earned her Ph.D.

It is with the unique perspective of 26 years of service that Rebecca sees how the policies of the SBOE impact the students she teaches and the over 4800 students she has taught.  These students have ranged from those in special dropout prevention programs to high-achievers enrolled in Advanced Placement classes.  Rebecca will be able to help tailor policies of the SBOE to fit the entire spectrum of student needs and capabilities.  Her experience writing and interpreting agency rules and regulations, in addition to her experiences with curriculum and assessments contribute to her unique qualities.  An improved curriculum must meet the needs and talents of students for success in higher education, as well as for vocational and technological careers.

Rebecca’s efforts, as a member of the State Board of Education, will serve to end the frustrations of many students, their parents, teachers and business leaders which have ultimately led to the huge numbers of drop-outs and other related problems.

Rebecca is a member of several Republican Women’s clubs and the Republican Club of Sun City in Georgetown.  She has served as a delegate to the conventions of the Texas Republican Party and Texas Federation of Republican Women.  She counts among her many friends and supporters life-time Republican leaders, strong fiscal conservatives and professional educators.  Rebecca credits her mother for her interest in Republican politics and her participation in the campaign for Senator John Tower.

Showing Up & Speaking Out

"For District 10, we endorse Republican Rebecca Osborne, a teacher in the Round Rock school district. It would be a refreshing change to have someone on the board who could give a contemporary classroom perspective. In addition to college preparation, she wants schools to offer career and vocational instruction for students who decide to go directly to jobs after high school."  2010 Statesman Endorsement

Osborne to run for Open SBOE Seat

Osborne, . . . said she would bring a “practical, common sense teacher’s voice to the State Board of Education.

“Having taught over 5,000 students, I am well aware that all children are not the same, and they don’t need the same solutions,” Osborne said. “Our curriculum must be relevant and rigorous while upholding our conservative values. Local control and accountability are fundamental to the success of our schools.” American Statesman
